Volunteer Appreciation Week | Longtime Volunteer Profile

Jim Ramberg is one of our most active volunteers at Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity. He has been volunteering with Habitat for almost 18 years and started after retiring from a 20+ year career as a chemical engineer at 3M.  The 3Mgives Volunteer Alumni have been around since 1996, have built 64 Habitat homes from start to finish and had a hand in 90 more.   Jim (pictured right in the photo below) has been a part of the crew from the beginning and he even remembers the first project which was a house on the East side of St. Paul.

When asked about his volunteer time and what keeps him coming back, he said, “First, it’s a great program and it’s nice to work with the future homeowners.”  Jim and the 3Mgives Volunteer Alumni have been building multi-unit townhomes in Woodbury for the past few years.  Just the other day, a future homebuyer named Nedu stopped by with his wife to check out their almost finished home.   Jim said the couple was talking about where they would put their dishes in the kitchen and where they would be placing their loveseat.  “Nedu thanked us again and it was nice to see them. That’s the biggest thing” said Jim.  Building alongside many of the 3Mgives alumni volunteers for quite a while has also been wonderful experience for Jim.  “They’re a great group of people to work with,” said Jim.

Not only has Jim clocked among the most volunteer days at Habitat in the past few years, he also finds time to tutor a child weekly at Solid Ground and be a reading buddy at a nearby elementary school.  Jim is active in his church, Redeemer Lutheran in White Bear Lake, and does maintenance work there on a regular basis.

This National Volunteer Week, Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity would like to thank Jim Ramberg and the 3Mgives Alumni Volunteers for the everlasting impact they have made on the Twin Cities metro area over the last 18 years!
