Haunted Substandard House
What makes a haunted house spooky: the ghosts, the gore or the hidden dangers? What really is scary is the fact that many families are living in very dangerous homes that are not up to the local building or housing codes. Experience the danger of mouse traps, exposed wires, mold, asbestos and a falling ceiling… if you dare. You won’t want to miss out on the one of a kind event planned by our Youth United leaders! Their second Haunted Substandard House will be on Saturday, October 20, 2012 from 4 – 7pm at the Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity office.
Are you brave enough to explore Youth United’s chilling TCHFH home? Come join us as we transform our office into a deteriorating home and walk with us as we navigate through the substandard house. The cool crisp rooms will leave you in shivers and the frequent presence of pests will keep you cautious of your step. Be careful to stay away from the walls; you never know what will be on it! Be prepared to learn and experience substandard house as you tour Youth United’s Haunted Substandard House. Take note of the living condition of the house and pay close attention to your surroundings. Let it be known that you’ve been warned!
Last year Youth United created the Haunted Substandard House event to incorporate fundraising, education and involvement of youth under 16 years old. All proceeds of the event this year will be used to fund Youth United’s sponsorship of a rehab house in 2013. The youth leaders are also taking this event as an opportunity to educate the community and other youth about the consequences of substandard housing and ways we can help eliminate poverty housing. The Haunted Substandard House has become one of Youth United’s largest event, in terms of planning and organizing, that engages youth under the age of 16. With a successful first year in 2011, we hope that you will join us in our second Haunted Substandard House event to make it another successful event! RSVP on Facebook here.
