Make an In-Kind Donation

Do you or your company have unused building materials, hardware or related supplies? Are you interested in sharing your professional skill set with Habitat? In-kind donations of materials and services are a vital part of our mission; they help us cut costs and build more housing in our community.

Donate Materials
All materials donations are handled by our ReStore and warehouse staff. Anything that cannot be used in Habitat homes for size, style or aesthetic reasons is sold at the ReStore. Click here for a list of items we accept as donations.

Donate Skilled Labor and Construction Services
Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity utilizes volunteers for the majority of construction work completed on our homes. However, there are a few types of services that regular volunteers are not able to perform: earthwork, sewer & water installation, concrete, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical work. Occasionally, we also need help with lead & asbestos abatement, roofing and drywall finishing. Any company or individual willing to partner with Twin Cities Habitat  must be licensed, insured, and committed to completing the entire project. Contact Wanda Coss at 612-305-7160; bids@tchabitat.org for more information about donating services.

If you aren’t able to commit to a large project, consider donating your services to A Brush with Kindness. This program preserves home ownership by assisting low-income homeowners with repairs and maintenance on their homes. ABWK regularly needs plumbers, electricians, roofers and skilled carpenters. Please e-mail abwk@twincities.org for more information.

Donate a Vehicle

Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity receives the proceeds from vehicle donations through Habitat for Humanity International's "Cars for Homes™" program. Cars for Home™ accepts cars, trucks, boats, RV's and other vehicles with proper title and proof of ownership. As a general rule, if the vehicle is fewer than 12 years old, runs, has no major damage and no title or major mechanical problems, it is eligible. RVs, boats, motorcycles, older specialty vehicles or those in exceptional condition may be eligible as well.

To donate a vehicle to Twin Cities Habitat, call 877-277-4344 or donate online

Twin Cities Habitat also accepts direct donations of late-model pickups to use as construction vehicles. To find out more about fleet vehicle donations, contact us at 612-588-380; restore@tchabitat.org.

Changes in Tax Law: Through 2004, those donating a vehicle could deduct its "fair market value" from his or her federal income taxes (this still applies to fleet donations). As of 2005, the donor is able to deduct the greater of $500 or the amount the charity sold the car for, less repair costs. Visit the IRS for tax information or visit a local library for forms. Use Publication 526 (donating property), or Publication 561 (valuing property). When filing, you will need to submit IRS Form 8283 for donated property.
